Did you know that right now just over 50% of the population finds itself living in urban areas. The WHO tells us that 90% of human live in areas that contain toxic levels of pollutants. This relates to 4 million deaths each year and means that air pollution is the biggest health risk in the world right now. Specific particles called particulate matter are the culprits in this health risk story. These small but dangerous molecules are so tiny that they can enter the body via the skin by passing through the lipid bi-layer and via hair follicles.

Particulate Matter is the cause multiple challenges when they enter the skin*:

• They alter the skin barrier and lipid bi-layer
• They increase the risk for inflammatory skin disease i.e. atopic dermatitis, acne and psoriasis
• They increase the risk of skin cancer incidence
• They drastically accelerate ageing
• They increase facial hyperpigmentation by 20%

How does particulate matter accelerate ageing?

This happens through two pathways. Oxidative stress and the activation of Aryl Hydrocarbon receptors (Ahr) found in the cytoplasm of cells.

Target client:

• Younger skin – they have the most to lose
• Normal to oily skin, preferring a mat, lightweight sun protection product
• Everybody living in the urban landscape that is not using Helase 50
• For those who are not spending the bulk of their day in the sun

Instructions for use:

Apply after cleansing and moisturising and before applying make-up.
Apply every morning, or 15 minutes before venturing into the urban jungle.

Special precautions:

• Re-apply every two hours when spending more time outdoors
• Apply 10 min prior to sun exposure and re-apply when in direct sunlight
• Helase Urban Defence is not water resistant
• Avoid contact with eyes
