Alma iPixel Results

What is Alma iPixel Laser Resurfacing?

If dull, uneven or sun-damaged skin, fine lines, scarring or rough texture are bothering you, the Alma iPixel laser resurfaces the skin to bring back a smoother, fresher surface. At Soma Laser & Skincare Clinic in Pretoria East we use it as a fractional treatment, which means it renews the skin in a controlled way with less downtime than older full-resurfacing lasers.

The iPixel is safe on Fitzpatrick 1 to 4.

How It Works

What happens during and after your Alma iPixel treatment at Soma Laser and Skincare Clinic.

01
How the iPixel Laser Works

The iPixel is an erbium (Er:YAG) laser. Its energy is absorbed by the water in your skin, so it works precisely at the surface with little heat spreading to the tissue around it. “Fractional” means the laser treats the skin in tiny microscopic columns rather than the whole surface at once, leaving healthy skin in between. That untreated skin speeds up healing and prompts the skin to renew itself and build fresh collagen, so texture and tone improve as it heals. The applicator rolls smoothly over the area, which makes the treatment quicker and more even.

02
What to Expect
A course Depending on your skin concern can be 4 to 6 sessions 6 to 8 weeks apart.
During the session A topical numbing cream will be applied to the skin for 30 to 45 min before treatment. A heat build up will occur, feeling much like a sunburn.
Healing and downtime Because this resurfaces the skin, there is some downtime. It is normal to look red and slightly swollen afterwards, and the skin can show a fine “grid” pattern and then flake lightly as it renews over the following days.
03
The Healing Process
Days 0 - 3 Inflammation. Edema, erythema, release of cytokines and growth factors. Minor to extreme swelling may occur.
Days 2 - 7 Re-epithelialization. Keratinocytes migrate from spared skin and close the columns. Micro scabs form.
Weeks 1 - 4 Proliferation. Fibroblast activation, new collagen and ground substance (scabbing/new skin formation/babyskin).
Months 1 - 6 Remodelling. Collagen matures and reorganizes with ongoing neocollagenesis (baby skin/improvement).
04
Before and After Your Treatment
Patch test A patch test may be done beforehand to check how your skin responds.
Before Pause active skincare (retinol, acids, strong actives) for about a week, and avoid sun and self-tan on the area. If prone to fever blisters the usage of an oral and topical prophylactic anti-viral medication will be given 2 days before and continue for 7 days after.
After Keep the skin clean and protected, with a Hypochlorous Spray and Lamelle Restorative Balm. Avoid active products for about a week, no makeup for, and strict SPF while the skin renews. Avoid heat (sauna, hot gym) and picking the treated skin.
05
