What is Fernblock and why is it in every Heliocare product?
Fernblock is a patented extract of Polypodium leucotomos, a Central American fern with clinically proven photoprotective properties. It is the ingredient the whole Heliocare range is built on. It works as a potent antioxidant that helps prevent, protect against and repair DNA damage from sun radiation, which is why it appears in the gels, the sprays, the colour products and the oral capsules alike.

What does 360 mean on the Heliocare 360 products?
The 360 range protects against four types of radiation rather than the two most sunscreens address: UVB and UVA, plus High Energy Visible Light and Infrared-A. Those last two also contribute to premature ageing and pigmentation. The 360 formulas use Fernblock+ together with a stable combination of filters, and several add DNA repair enzymes.

Which Heliocare is best for oily or breakout-prone skin?
The oil-free products. Heliocare 360 Gel Oil-Free SPF 50 is an ultra-light dry-touch gel that absorbs instantly with no greasy finish, and the Helio 360 Oil-Free Compact is a cream-to-powder formula made specifically for mixed, oily or acne-prone skin. The 360 Color Gel Oil-Free is also suited to oily to very oily skin. All of them are non-comedogenic.

Is there a Heliocare that gives coverage like makeup?
Yes, three. Heliocare 360 Color Gel Oil-Free SPF 50 is a full-spectrum photoprotective fluid makeup that evens skin tone and covers imperfections; Beige suits skin phototypes 2 to 3. The Helio 360 Oil-Free Compact gives high coverage with a matte finish. Heliocare Gel Colour comes in Light and Brown as tinted gel sunscreens for daily wear.

What are the Heliocare Ultra Capsules and do they replace sunscreen?
They are a daily oral supplement containing high levels of Fernblock, with Lycopene and Lutein for eye protection. They do not replace sunscreen. Used together with a topical sunscreen, oral Fernblock increases the skin's resistance to sunburn and helps protect against photo-ageing and hyperpigmentation. The dose is 1 to 2 capsules daily.

Can I use Heliocare after a peel or a laser treatment?
Heliocare Ultra Capsules are suitable for use after chemical peels or laser. Sun protection matters most in the period after any resurfacing treatment, so your therapist at Soma Laser and Skincare Clinic will tell you which product to use on the treated skin and when you may start applying it.

Which Heliocare suits sensitive skin?
Heliocare 360 Invisible Spray SPF 50+ is suitable for all skin types including sensitive skin, and the Ultra Capsules are recommended for skin made sensitive by medication or by conditions such as solar keratosis, skin cancer, vitiligo and eczema. Note that the 360 Sensation and the 360 Body Glow both contain a fragrance.

Is Heliocare water resistant?
Several of them are. Heliocare 360 Sensation is water and sweat resistant, Heliocare 360 Body Glow is water, sweat and sand resistant, and Heliocare Spray SPF 50 is water resistant. Water resistance is never permanent, so reapply after swimming, heavy sweating or towel drying.

Will Heliocare leave a white cast?
No. Heliocare Ultra 90 Gel leaves no white residue and does not dry the skin, the Gel Colour products leave no residue, and the 360 Invisible Spray is made for an invisible finish with fast absorption. The tinted options give colour rather than a white film.

Which Heliocare is best for pigmentation?
The ones that cover the full spectrum, because visible light contributes to pigmentation as well as UV. Heliocare Gel Colour, in Light or Brown, is formulated to help prevent the formation of pigmentation and other signs of visible photo-ageing, and the 360 range protects against UVB, UVA, visible light and infrared. If you are being treated for melasma or sun damage, ask your therapist which to pair with your treatment plan.

Is there a Heliocare for the body?
Yes. Heliocare 360 Invisible Spray SPF 50+ and Heliocare Spray SPF 50 are both all-over body protection, and Heliocare 360 Body Glow SPF 50+ is a creamy body gel that adds a soft gold shimmer from a blend of six mica minerals. It suits all skin tones.
